A little about me…
For those who don’t know me, my name is Matt Brennan, and Spiraling Upwards is my place to blog about being a dad. I’ve worked in the journalism and communications industries for more than a decade, so a personal blog seemed long overdue.
I’m addicted to well-told stories and music that rocks. Both seem to make life a little better. For some reason, I suffer through the long Chicago baseball and football seasons with a foolish level of hope.
I’ve got opinions on a wide range of subjects from politics to sports to the best classic rock albums of all time. Eighty-yard touchdown passes and guitar solos get my blood flowing. Now we can add watching Frozen and playing blocks to that list. It’s crazy how priorities shift.
I’m the type of person who always wondered why you’d want to build something when you could just buy it, or why you’d want to fix something when you could just call the landlord. I’ve always considered cooking a survivalist skill, and never took much enjoyment in it. All of that changed a few years ago when my wife and I bought a house a few months after she gave birth to our son.
I’ve got a healthy fear of snakes, and public bathrooms. I’ve been to 29 of the 50 states. Chicago-style pizza is the best and nobody does that better than Gino’s East.
And of course, Jamie. This little toddler is learning at an amazing clip and surprising us every day. When he’s not practicing the ABC song, or learning his numbers and colors, he’s running so fast that he bounces off the walls in our home. Literally.
Lets make it a conversation. Feel free to comment on any post that strikes your fancy and let me know what you think of my dad blog. Facebook and Twitter are also good places to find me. Or sign up for my email through the form on the top right.
